The Gallery

Below, as separate postings, you will find examples of images for three ranges of my paintings, as well as size and price details:

Portraits of Standing Stones in sepia

American Buildings: Light & Shadow in monochrome

Landscapes of Islands & Highlands in subtle hues

All my paintings are done in highly permanent transparent watercolor on stretched 200# cold-pressed paper.  They are matted and mounted in archival papers and professionally custom framed in high-quality materials.

In addition to these originals, I also have very high quality Giclèe reproductions of selected paintings available.

Please contact me by email if you are interested in any of these works or would like to see others not represented here.

Islands & Highlands

Misty mountains, wide white sands, stout stone walls, yielding moors, the ancient buildings of the north . . . These paintings evoke a time and place both gentle and wild, open and protected, familiar and remote. This series, which currently comprises more than one hundred paintings, most now held in private collections, continues to grow to include more and more of the great northern landscapes of the British Isles with their distinctive cottages and castles, uplands and valleys.

Studies in Structure

Monochromatic transparent watercolor makes the inherent beauty of the structures that surround us more visible.  By emphasizing the play of light and shadow on those structures I try to add to their intrigue -- contrasting volume and solidity with reflection and transcendence.

Part I of this series celebrates the buildings of North America as they are today, whether perfectly restorated, worn from daily use, or in ruins.

Stone Portraits

The “Old World” is starred with thousands of ancient megaliths erected about four thousand years ago. Among the most moving are the giant standing stones -- half-buried, half thrust up against the sky. When observed closely each of these reveals a numinous character and hints at benevolent mysteries yet unsolved.

All works in this series of monochromatic paintings are a portraits of specific stones located in the Outer Hebrides Islands off the northwest coast of Scotland or at Avebury on the North Wessex Downs.
